Tainui Regional Wānanga

We have the privilege of gathering as a MAC whānau at Te Papa o Te Aroha Marae in Tokoroa, under the mana of Raukawa, the iwi of the rohe. The day will begin with a pōwhiri and kōrero from mana whenua, setting the cultural and relational foundation for our time together through whakawhanaungatanga.

Throughout the day, participants will engage in a series of inspiring and practical learning opportunities. We are honoured to hear from Leanne Ōtene, Tumu Whakarae (National Director) of Te Arahou o Aotearoa Trust, who will share the vision and direction of our kaupapa. Together, we will unpack the many taonga gifted to us by our iwi, rūnaka, marae, and rakatira, reflecting on how these have strengthened our practice and exploring how they can continue to guide and inspire our work with tamariki.

We are also privileged to welcome Jarred Boon (MC Grammar), a respected educator, pouako and mentor to many of us, who will share an engaging and uplifting kōrero celebrating the beauty and importance of Te Reo Rangatira.

A panel of experienced colleagues will then explore how we can intentionally continue to grow success for all tamariki, and particularly tamariki Māori, through a Te Ao Māori lens, sharing practical insights and whakaaro from their own leadership journeys.

The afternoon will include a brief update from Anaru Morgan, highlighting MAC resources and next steps as we look ahead to 2027, before the whakakapi, bringing together the whakaaro, learning, and relationships built throughout the day.

Grounded in the MAC Kaupapa, this Regional Wānanga is designed to strengthen leadership, deepen understanding of culturally sustaining practice, and support kura to lead with confidence, authenticity, and purpose. Throughout the day there will be opportunities for shared kai, meaningful kōrero, and whanaungatanga as we continue to learn from and alongside one another.
